About JobsForEnglishMajors.com
Created by Terrell Johnson, an Atlanta-based writer, freelance journalist and Web content strategist, this website is for everyone with a writing background — whether they majored in English or not — who wants to learn more about how to forge a successful career in today’s job market.
If you’ve ever considered majoring in English, whether you’re a student in college now or one who has long since graduated and entered the working world, you’ve probably encountered puzzled looks and worried questions about your future from friends and family.
From queries like “what are you going to do with a degree like that?” to my personal favorite, “what does an English major say on his first day on the job? ‘Would you like fries with that?’” it can be uncomfortable, to say the least, to explain how and why you chose to major in English literature when friends who are majoring in fields like business, finance and accounting might seem to have such brighter futures ahead.
Though I’d let this blog lay fallow for many months, I’ve decided to re-launch it with all-new content and features, as I am now traveling the same path many readers are also on — I’m in the job market, so I’ll be able to share with readers what it’s like to really search for jobs on the ground in today’s economic climate. I look forward to hearing your voices as well along the way.
